One cannot help but appreciate the exceptional body lines of the Volvo 242. Designed with a perfect blend of elegance and sportiness, the car's aesthetics are a testament to the Scandinavian design philosophy. While building this Volvo, I aimed to preserve the essence of Scandinavian design while orienting it as a sports car. I successfully managed to merge these seemingly contrasting elements, resulting in a car that is both visually stunning and performance-oriented. By retaining the minimalist and functional design principles, the vehicle maintains a sense of understated elegance while delivering an exhilarating driving experience. The car's robust chasis and spacious engine bay provide ample room to occomadate an LS2 engine, T56 transmission, Moser M88 full floater rear end, and other unsuspected means of customization.

The Volvo that I have built over the last several years features an LS2 engine and a T56 transmission sourced from a 2006 GTO. The LS2 is a 6.0-liter V8 engine that was introduced by General Motors in 2005, and is a member of the renowned LS family of engines, known for their power, efficiency, and versatility. The LS2 engine boasts many features that make it a standout option. In addition to the LS2 engine, the Volvo also features a T56 manual transmission. this offers a unique driving experience that the driver is sure find enjoyable and engaging. specifically sourced from the GTO, the T56 is a robust and well-regarded manual gearbox. It is known for its smooth shifting, precise gear engagement, and durability. The combination of the LS2 engine and the T56 transmission creates a dynamic powertrain setup that delivers exhilarating performance and an engaging driving experience. The Volvo is equipped with a full floater M88 rear end from Moser, which offers several advantages over the original Dana 30. This upgraded rear end is particularly suitable for high horsepower engines due to its superior strength and durability. The full floater design of the M88 rear end ensures that the weight of the vehicle is fully supported by the housing, rather than relying on the axle shafts. This feature significantly reduces stress on the axle shafts and bearings, allowing them to operate more efficiently and with less risk of failure. The inclusion of a Truetrac differential further enhances the performance of the Volvo. The Truetrac differential is a helical gear-style limited-slip differential, which provides excellent traction and stability. Unlike conventional open differentials, the Truetrac automatically transfers power to the wheel with the most traction, ensuring that both rear wheels receive power even in slippery or uneven road conditions. This feature greatly improves the vehicle's handling, especially during acceleration and cornering. Moreover, the driveshaft, which was expertly built by Denny's Driveshafts, is equipped with a 1350 slip yoke and u-joint. With these high-quality components, I have set the car up to be an adequate canyon-carver; one that is predictable, durable ,powerful, and most importantly enjoyable.

When it came to maintaining the original charm of the classic and timeless Volvo, I knew that attention to detail was key. I wanted to ensure that every aspect of the interior design reflected the elegance and sophistication that Volvo is known for. That's why I was thrilled when I found a leather that perfectly matched the original coffee brown color of the car. This leather not only had the right shade, but also had a beautiful texture and shine that added a touch of luxury to the overall aesthetic. To break up the brown and add some contrast, I decided to use a different shade of leather on the inserts. This leather matched the paint color of the car, creating a cohesive look that seamlessly blended with the rest of the interior. The larger bolsters on the seats not only provided a sporty feel, but also added an extra layer of comfort. It was important for me to create an interior that not only looked great, but also felt great to be in. In order to incorporate some modern elements into the classic design, I chose to use walnut for the glovebox and dashboard. The rich, dark wood added a touch of warmth and sophistication to the interior. It perfectly complemented the leather and created a harmonious blend of classic and modern aesthetics. The dashboard also housed a Holley Pro Dash, which added a high-tech element to the overall design. The end result was a truly cohesive interior that perfectly juxtaposed classic and modern elements. The combination of the coffee brown leather, contrasting inserts, walnut accents, and high-tech dashboard created a space that was both timeless and contemporary. It was a celebration of Volvo's heritage while embracing the advancements of today's technology. Not only did the interior look amazing, but it also felt incredible. The attention to detail in choosing the right materials and finishes ensured that every touchpoint was luxurious and comfortable. The sporty feel of the larger bolsters added an extra level of excitement, making every drive feel like an adventure. The final result was both timeless and cutting-edge. It exudes luxury and sophistication while also giving off an air of sportiness.
